Hyperion Capitol Main Battle Tank:

 

Overview:

 

While not technically replacing the aging Minotaur the Hyperion is Capitols newest MBT. Designed with better armour, speed and weaponry the Hyperion is yet untested in the field however live fire tests have concluded it is able to destroy most enemy MBTs at range in the first shot with its new Scram cannon, including the Union Seraphim. While slowly being filtered in to the Capitol military it will be fighting alongside the old Minotaur mainly until the full switch over can be completed. Its design however is very strange for Capitol, all 3 crew located in a boxy wide turret with electronics, reactor and ammo in the Hull, autoloader main gun and 37mm autocannon do not need direct crew interaction however if jams etc. occur the electronics operator/commander can fix it.

 

Capabilities:

 

Armament wise the Hyperion is armed with a 145mm Scram Cannon, a gun which fires scram jet assisted shells at Mach velocities and doesn’t loose punch at extreme range. In fact the further the target the harder hitting the shot, with the gun being ineffective at close range. This gun only fires AP shells which use on board computers and flight stabilising to correct the shots, after most battles the barrels have to be replaced after the wear and tear of the scram jet launches, for ammo stocks the Hyperion carriers 30 rounds. As a secondary weapon the tank mounts a 37mm auto cannon equipped with HE frag rounds to engage infantry or light vehicles and is equipped with around 200 shells. And as an all-round fire capability a small heavy machinegun has auto targeting for any nearby infantry defence and an additional machine gun can be mounted on the cupola for commander’s use.

 

Defensive measures and armour wise the Hyperion is very well armoured with an effective armour thickness of around a meter especially on the front the amour plates made of Azanium have the capacity to stop both kinetic and energy blasts. However additional plates can be added, however the Hyperion doesn’t possess any ADS apart from very basic one use frag launchers.

 

Electronic abilities wise the Hyperion is equipped with an advanced by Capitol standards electronic system able to interact with other vehicles and command, as well as give complete awareness to the crew and operate the frag launchers and automated machine gun as well as help aim the Scram Cannon.

 

Speed wise The Hyperion is pretty fast able to muster 50mph with around 45 off road. Fully able to spearhead and armoured advance with plenty of room for infantry to ride on top.

 

Variants:

 

AVRE engineering variant: Designed to assist in Hyperion companies the AVRE has mounted a large 300mm rocket assited mortar capable of demolishing buildings or obstacles and can then clear them out the way with its dozer blade or dozer arm. It is also equipped with a winch to tow away damaged vehicles and its crew can help them repair. It can also help set up defences when needing to dig into an area.

 

Heavy Defense Urban Variant: Equipped with even more armour plates and an additional cupola machine gun this Hyperion can take even more enemy fire or fire from bigger weaponry or deal with AT infantry at close ranges at all arcs. Designed for city fighting or when heavy enemy armour is detected this variant is an easy add on to the original platform.

 

Drone Variant: Still ironing out kinks Capitol is developing its own drones, and the Hyperion is no exception with no crew needed the turret is significantly made smaller and additional electronics are added to help with control which is normally controlled either by a modified vehicle or a base of operations in the area.

 

Union Railcannon Variant: as an experiment the Hyperion was mated with a Union 155mm Railcannon, while not as good at long range fire as the Scram cannon it does allow for incredibly penetration at all ranges meaning more versatility however the tanks reactor is pushed harder having to power the railcannon capacitors after every shot.

 

Company Command Variant: Actually armed with a dummy gun the Company command variant is equipped with a vast array of electronics and command equipment to help the commander direct the entire column of tanks and to oversee the entire field of operations. However it still retains the 37mm autocannon and often is shown out by additional coms arrays.

 

Platoon Command Variant: Armed still with the Scram cannon the Platoon command has more electronics but still retains its line combat ability and doesn’t sacrifice capability or protection. However the commander of the tank also has to oversee the entire platoon along with his own vehicle.

 

Battlefield Recon Variant: Armed with a 120mm Scram cannon to make room for more electronics this tank has far more optics and scanners to find the enemy or stealth systems. Often in a high concealed position this variant doesn’t engage in combat unless when necessary or it has a shot of opportunity and its role is to merely give recon to the rest of the company.
