Grand Empire of Capitol Hydra Mk.3 Class Destroyer:

 

Overview: The Hydra class Destroyer has been even more prestigious than the vaunted Trident class battleship. It was the Hydra class that secured Capitol its territory in the early days and has been at the forefront of every major engagement since, being Capitols first own design it has progressed far since those days. The Hydra Mk.3 is a massive upgrade from the Mk.2, with almost twice the primary firepower and faster the Hydra Mk.3 will fit into Capitols rapid engagement and attack doctrines that emphasises heavily on dealing as much damage as quickly as possible. The Hydra can be used for either escorting larger vessels or for directly engaging the enemy itself, despite its small size the armament on this ship can even do damage to enemy dreadnoughts and will be seen very soon being phased in to the space forces to replace the old Mk.2 Hydra.

 

Armament: The Hydra Mk.3 mounts a terrifyingly large armament for its diminutive size. 3 Spinal Tachyon arrows bolstered by another 3 in a turret mount gives it a powerful primary punch supplemented by 2 torpedo tubes capable of firing 16 Tachyon Torpedoes. For secondary's 10 Heavy railgun dual turret mounts provide a heavy close combat capability alongside numerous light railguns and point defense. 16 Missile launchers also run the ships sides to give long or short range thermonuclear fire support.

 

Railguns: Taken from Union specifications while not as advanced as the Unions Mass Drivers Capitols new railgun technology is vastly superior to their old rocket propelled cannons. Now they can engage enemies at speed and while still not dealing massive amounts of damage per shot Capitol have managed to increase their ROF to around 450 shots per minute. This results in the rails being changed after every engagement but also a serious boost in firepower.

Missile Launchers: Made to fire Capitols primary anti-ship missile at extremely long ranges these weapons have limited supplies though most of the missile launchers in Capitols arsenal have been changed to fire thermo nuclear munitions. These new fusion warheads can produce yields from 500-900MT each easily able to damage enemy ships and scour worlds clean of all life.

Defences: The Hydra Mk.3 mounts around 5ft of Azanium armour plating with composite layers of ballistic gels and heat resistant materials. This new type of armour was developed with the help of Triarch Industries and is now able to take much more damage from both kinetic and energy weapons than the previous armour. The Hydra as well is protected by 3 medium shield generators capable to taking many direct hits each before they need to recharge again. Capitols new shield technology allows them to partially absorb around 11% of an enemy energy weapon shot and use it to charge the ships Tachyon Arrows if it has any.

Tachyon Point Shields: A new development available only to the new Mk.3 fleet ships the Tachyon Shield is a point defense shield able to protect very specific parts of the ship when under attack or to intercept very specific enemy attacks with almost total impunity. Able to siphon off generated Tachyons from the ships TAs and route them through specialized shield banks all over the ship the vessel can produce for a few seconds a shield of pure Tachyons before they merely disappear, the shield coverage is only able to intercept specific shots and such siphoning from the TAs prevents their fire however the shield can withstand even a shot from a dreadnought level railgun with no damage to the ship, however the system is far from perfect and so the ships main shields provide the primary protection, the Tachyon shield being used only as a last ditch secondary. The more TAs a ship has the more the shield can be used and the larger the area covered.

 

Power plant: The Hydra Mk.3 runs on 3 Cold Nuclear Fusion reactors for energy, this system was reverse engineered at a remote location using Union schematics however, they were produced before Inaras rise to power but due to the actions of Sabre team the project was massively set back when the base was destroyed. The reactors are superior to the Mk.2 vessels and have even more power output meaning more shots from the TAs and increased shield output and engine output all round, with less space taken up by the generators.

 

Electronic capabilities: The Hydra Mk.3 is run by a advanced computer system which is on the very edge of computational capability bordering on AI. This system can aid targeting, calculate anything that is needed and also provide limited control over the ships actions. The system can also be slaved to the will of the captain to prevent mutiny or boarding however the ships actions under the computers control are severely limited.

 

Crew: The Hydra Mk.3 has a crew of 2000 men. All of which are human. Around 50 are commissars. 

 

Attack craft: The Hydra does not mount dedicated attack craft hangars and must rely on other ships to provide attack craft cover.

Speed and Engines: The Hydra Mk.3 is equipped with a Gravitic drive and can reach speeds of up to 0.8 Light speed in a reasonable amount of time. It is also equipped with a Capitol Trans-Warp FTL drive.
